Lignite Upgrading
Cat-HTR Process
Pilot Plant
Ignite currently operates a fully operational Pilot Plant at its engineering centre at Somersby, New South Wales. The Pilot Plant has successfully converted lignite, from Australia and abroad, into a synthetic crude oil ('syncrude') and a high-grade micronised coal.
Results from this Pilot Plant have been used to independently produce a mass-energy balance equations (University of Sydney, Department of Chemical Engineering), which show that for every 1.3t of as-mined lignite (assuming 50% moisture) the Cat-HTR Process produces one barrel of syncrude and 0.34 tonnes of high-grade micronised coal.
